Hiroshima & Nagasaki Commemorations 2008
hiroshth
Yorkshire CND and other groups across the region will be marking the 63rd anniversary of the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki by the United States in 1945. It is as crucial as ever that we mark these dates in our towns and cities to ensure that the memory of the use of these truly devastating weapons is ever forgotten. In a climate of fear and nuclear tensions, remembering the 6th and 9th of August is one way of continuing our work for a world free of nuclear weapons.

Missile Defence Update
Missile Defence Update
Yorkshire CND are supporting the actions of Czech campaigners who have been opposing plans to develop a US Missile Defence base in the Czech Republic. The Czech government seem set to press ahead with the US' proposals, despite over two thirds of public opposition to the base in the country.

Jan Tamas and Jan Bednar have recently come to the end of a 22 day hunger strike by launching a chain hunger strike to enable others to continue the protest.
Supported by politicians, celebrities and activists across the Czech Republic and the rest of the world the campaigners are actively building support for a one-day world hunger strike on June 22nd to protest against the deadly US Missile Defence programme.

Yorkshire CND Convenor Professor Dave Webb will be joining the hunger strike on June 22nd with other national figures in the British peace movement.

Aldermaston 2008
The Bomb Stops Here
As part of CND’s 50th anniversary events, people came together from across the region to mark the 50th anniversary of the first march to the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston – the heart of Britain’s nuclear weapons programme. With parliament voting in March 2007 for a new fleet of nuclear-armed submarines, and with the construction of facilities for a new generation of nuclear warheads already underway at Aldermaston, it is more viatal than ever that we continue our campaign.

Buses from accross Yorkshire and the north - as well as the rest of the country travelled down to Aldermaston to help surround the base and say 'The Bomb Stops Here'.
