Unauthorised Construction at Fylingdales
The latest security measures appear to be in reponse to peace disarmers' activities during the past year:

Dear Mrs Dilcock,
Re: Fylingdales US Space Command Ballistic Missile Early Warning Station, Near Pickering: unauthorised construction:
We have observed that a brick wall has been constructed surrounding the US Space Command's MILSTAR antenna and that there are new razor-wire fences within the MILSAT compound.
We presume that these inadequate security measures are in response to recent non-violent disarmament actions. If they are designed to counter such activities they are totally ineffective.
MILSTAR is a component of the USA's National Missile Defense System, commonly known as 'Star Wars'; information received by the SSPAR radar pyramid is relayed to US Space Command HQ in Colorado, USA.
The current public consultation debate, whether or not the UK will host components of USA's NMD, is a sham. It is a hypocritical mockery of democracy. Components of the NMD system are already installed at Fylingdales and Menwith Hill. We have, however, made a representation to the Defence Committee. Enclosed please find a copy of our submission.
The assurances that there would be no further unauthorised developments at Fylingdales, which were given to the local authority early in 2002, are typical of the MoD's hypocrisy.
We wish to submit objection to further built-up development in this sensitive environment and the desecration of the National Park. We believe that the NYMNPA should order removal of the unauthorised structures.
Yours sincerely,
Anne Lee pp WoMenwith Women
