Dear Mrs Dilcock,

Re: 'RAF' Fylingdales: pipe laying excavations:

On Saturday April 5th, I was with a group who walked the 'Western Bridleway' from the A169 road to the 'Secure Area' fences surrounding the BMEWS pyramid. The bridleway traverses the Access Road into the Base.

I observed that work is in progress to lay two pipes with a diameter c 50cm each alongside the N of the Access Road. The excavations appeared to involve considerable disturbance to the ground.

The site is considered to be sensitive owing to its proximity to Sites of Special Scientific Interest and because the area is known to be an historic trackway and ancient funerary site. The Ministry of Defence will therefore have been obliged to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment and an Archaeological Investigation.

We are very interested in the MoD's Reports, even if the results are negative. I should be grateful if you could advise me whether they are available for public viewing at the NYMNPA Planning Department.

May we enquire if the new pipes are required as part of the development of the US Space Command Fylingdales Base for its new role in the US National Missile Defense programme (commonly known as Star Wars)?

We note that the security cameras continue to proliferate.

Yours sincerely,

Anne Lee pp WoMenwith women
