Missile Defence - The new threat

 War on terrorism

Missile Defence, or Star Wars as it's known, is the new threat to world peace and stability. The programme, being developed by the US at the moment, threatens to provoke an arms race, international instability, the weaponisation and militarisation of space and will make the UK a target. The two key bases in the UK needed for the system are in Yorkshire, which makes Yorkshire the biggest target. Yorkshire CND is one of the leading organisations campaigning against missile defence. The UK supported attack on Iraq had nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction and nothing to do with terrorism. The war was about control of oil and strategic positioning in the Middle East.
Yorkshire CND believes that the UK must stop supporting attacks on sovereign states the purpose of which is entirely to strengthen the hand of the US on the international stage. Wars kill thousands, injure thousands and lead to instability. They breed hatred and terrorism and they take us further from, not closer to, peace. Scrap Trident

 Weapons & Military in Space

A British nuclear-powered Trident submarine is out on patrol ready, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to fire sixteen nuclear-armed missiles. Each submarine carries 48 independently-targeted nuclear warheads. Each warhead has seven times the explosive power of the first atomic bomb at Hiroshima, which killed 140,000 civilians. To the United States Space Command, Space is the "fourth medium of warfare".
Space is becoming an increasingly important tool for modern warfare. Some want space weaponised too. Missile Defence is a key part of the moves towards military use of space, but it goes further than that. Efforts are ongoing in the USA, Europe and China to develop weapons in outer space, such as space-based lasers, breaking the Outer Space Treaty. No Nuclear Convoys

  

Every couple of months the Ministry of Defence takes a convoy of nuclear weapons up and down the UK in lorries, travelling at 60mph, through towns and cities.
